I’ve always had a passion for writing. In my high school days I absolutely loved English class, and I even loved writing essays because I was good at it. I found the entire research, point/proof/comment, and editing process satisfying and enjoyable.
If you’re the type who enjoys to write and would love to make money online from your talent, this list is perfect for you. Whether you’re just getting started on your writing journey or are a seasoned writer looking for new ways to earn extra money online, using these different strategies will help get your writing out there and start earning you extra money!
1. Start a blog
Starting a blog is perfect if you want to control what you write and how it is presented. You’re the boss, and you can do whatever you want and adjust as you go. Starting my blog is one of the best things that I’ve ever done for myself, and I wrote this blog post to help you get started on your own blog
2. Write and self publish an eBook
If you’re looking for a project to really sink your teeth into, you can write an eBook and publish it all on your own (well, almost). One route that you could take is writing a non-fiction eBook. Many people are more well-informed on a topic than they realize, and the world could really benefit from that knowledge. I would suggest brainstorming a list of topics that you think you could write a lot about, and do a search for already published eBooks. If you see that there’s a hole in the market and you know that you could add something – bam, there’s your idea.
Another route you could take is writing fiction novels. There are countless readers in love with every genre out there, and they’re always looking for new books to read. If you’re feeling creative and want to try your hand at a story, pick a couple of genres that you are interested in and think of a few plot ideas that you could get started on
3. Be a guest author for online magazines and blogs
Each blog is different, and some blog owners like to outsource a lot of their tasks – with writing being one of them! Blogs that like to invite paid guest writers will sometimes have a tab or link in their header or footer section of their blog detailing what type of content they’re looking for and whether or not it is a paid post. The same strategy can be used when looking into online magazine publications
4. Enter a writing contest
There are a couple of ways to go about entering writing contests. If you do a quick Google search for websites and blogs running writing contests, a bunch of different options will pop up for you. There are tons of websites that run writing contests throughout different times of the year, and they’ll pick their favourites and publish them. The payout will vary greatly from website to website, and entering a bunch of different contests will help your odds of winning while also letting you practice your writing skills.
Another way to find writing contests is by looking into your local newspapers and libraries. Lots of newspapers will advertise their contests in their paper and on their websites, and libraries will often advertise in their regular publications and on their website as well
And there you have it! There are many options available for writers, all with varying degrees of commitment and effort. I hope this list helps guide you in the right direction to get started!
