There are many factors in successfully selling on Poshmark, and taking good quality pictures for your listings is a huge one!
Poshmark is a very visual selling app. It combines trends with brand names, and produces a very fun clothing experience for both buyers and sellers.
I joined the Poshmark app immediately when they opened up in Canada in Spring 2019, and I’ve learned quite a bit during my time buying and selling on Poshmark.
I’ve also been selling on eBay full time for a while now, and I’ve been able to increase my income quite a bit since I added selling on Poshmark into the mix.

Since I’m definitely not a professional photographer, I’m a big believer that literally anyone can take great photographs very easily to help increase their Poshmark sales and make more money doing it!
Here are my biggest Poshmark photo tips for both newbies and experienced sellers:
1. Take square photos using your phone’s camera
Instead of using the in-app camera on Poshmark, use the camera on your phone and store your pictures directly in your phone’s camera roll. Poshmark requires that all photographs are a square size, so scroll across in your camera viewer until you hit that setting.
Your photographs will come out the correct size and your phone will produce a good quality picture (and make sure to wipe off the camera lens before you start snapping!). You can also edit/brighten your photos directly on your phone if you need to.
I also like to batch my pictures and photograph as many items at once as I can, and taking photos directly on my phone helps make this happen efficiently
2. Make sure your picture setup is bright
I’ve experimented a LOT over the past few years while trying to find the perfect photography setup that produces bright photos and doesn’t break the bank to create.
After much trial and error, I’m happy to pass on my perfect setup to you!
I almost always take my photographs using natural light – but sometimes the sky outside just isn’t cooperating and my pictures still look dark and dingy.
I use this lighting kit every single time that I photograph and it transforms my decent pictures into brightly lit and very clear photographs. It’s an amazing price for one of the most important tools in my selling arsenal. It also allows me to take photos in the evening which helps me get listings up much quicker so I can make more money!
Having clear and brightly lit pictures can mean the difference between someone scrolling past your listing or stopping to check it out because your picture caught their eye
3. Have a visually appealing background
The background of your pictures is another extremely important aspect to tying your pictures together. I recommend either using a blank wall and sticking one of these hooks on it and hanging your clothing from a hanger, or buying a nice inexpensive backdrop like this one, this one, or this one.
I often see listings with wrinkled clothing strewn across a rumpled up bed sheet, and as a buyer I just keep scrolling past that. Present your clothing as though it’s a fresh and clean item and people will perceive it as that.
A clear and pleasant photo can make or break your sale
4. Upload as many pictures as possible
Since your buyer is shopping online, including as many pictures of your item as you can will help them decide whether or not they want to buy your item.
Shopping online shouldn’t be more of a gamble than it already is. When you include multiple pictures of your item, it helps reassure the buyer that they’re not wasting their money by purchasing your product.
Poshmark has recently increased the amount of allowed photos from 8 to 16, so use this to your advantage to help secure your sale!
I always like to include photographs of the front, back, sides, tags, and close-ups of any interesting characteristics or flaws that my item has.
There should be no surprises when your buyer receives their purchase, and taking multiple pictures helps them believe in you and your item.
Which brings me to my next point…
5. Take pictures of all flaws and defects
Not all clothing or household items can be in mint condition, and that’s completely okay! As long as you communicate these flaws and issues to your buyer, everyone will be on the same page and will be happy with the transaction.
I always make sure to note any flaws in the listing description, and I also include close-ups of these flaws in my photographs. I don’t want any negative surprises for my buyer when they receive their item. Taking a clear snapshot of these problem areas helps make their buying experience with me a positive one!
At the time of writing this blog post, I’m getting close to 1000 items sold on Poshmark!
I strongly believe that a good quality photograph can turn your potential customers from someone simply browsing the app into a buyer that wants your product.
Improve your photo game, and you’ll improve your sales!
